Skyline High Earth Team wrapped up the semester nicely with a successful, but windy, weekend event with the Oakland LPS Team

The group of young leaders spent their final weekend event at a training event at the Martin Luther King Shoreline, during which Skyline students trained Oakland LPS students how to test water and Oakland LPS students lead a training on shoreline litter assessments.

Oyster Bay is located along the eastern shore of San Francisco. Oyster Bay was originally a landfill filled with trash for 3 decades. Today Oyster Bay has been restored with 157 acres of land. Saturday, the Kennedy Earth Team participated in the 2nd Saturday Volunteer Day with The Watershed Project at the Richmond Greenway. They worked diligently to remove invasive species and plant natives alongside other students from around the Bay, including Richmond High Earth Team interns.

This week’s after school meeting took place at Davis Park where the Kennedy Earth Team continued their vegetation monitoring project. The interns have been working with an application called Calflora to identify and record occurrences of certain native species. This week, they observed Cottonwood, Toyon, California coffeeberry, Coyote brush, Coast live oak, and Buckeye.
