On December 1st, 2016, the Air Quality Interns at Richmond High School measured the amount of carbon they emit by traveling to and from school each week. This past weekend, interns braved the cold, rainy weather and partnered up with Oakland Recycles to educate their local community about composting. Oakland’s new waste management initiative starting back in July, where multi-family dwelling homes, known commonly as apartments, were provided a green cart for collecting their food waste and yard trimmings.

Last meeting interns got a visit from Pamela Beitz, Resource Analysts for East Bay Regional Parks. This Saturday, interns will be planting 40 Native Tree Species at Oyster Bay, a recreational area owned by the East Bay Regional Park system that used to be used as a landfill.

This week in honor of Election Day, Antioch Earth Team participated in a friendly debate and discussion about the banning of single use plastic bags in California. Interns researched and discussed the two props that pertained to the banning of single use plastic bags, Prop 65 and 67. Interns then broke into groups representing Proposition 65 and 67, and attempted to persuade Program Associate, Julia Dorosh, to vote yes on their given prop.
