The numbers are in and... plastic is the king with 77% of all litter.  

During the first semester students made a huge difference in their schools and communities. EarthTeam student interns took to the streets, their campuses, beaches, creeks and community events to collect data on litter and remove it from the watershed. At the end of the first semester just under 9,000 pieces of litter were removed as a direct effort of students. Students are now in the analysis and planning phase to address the fall litter findings. Stay tuned...

This week EarthTeam interns got a surprise visit from Dr. Joe McBride, former UC Berkeley Forest Ecology Professor and EarthTeam Board Member. Dr. Mcbride has been working behind the scenes with EarthTeam staff to bring the Urban Forestry program to life. This week though Joe took to the field, taking students on a walking tree tour of their campus and surrounding neighborhoods to learn how to identify local tree species. Last week, EarthTeam interns from Pinole Valley High School hosted a litter removal along the stretch of creek adjacent to their high school. It had been raining heavily throughout the prior days, but we were treated to a break in the storm, perfectly timed for the end of the school day, and the beginning of the cleanup.
