On Monday, January 18th, Richmond High Marine Debris Interns gathered at the Richmond Greenway to support at the MLK Day of Action.

Interns worked to educate community participants about watersheds alongside Liza Dadiomov from the Watershed Project using the Watershed Model.

Richmond High School Interns have participated in Martin Luther King Jr. day at the Richmond Greenway for over 3 years. Every year The Watershed Project comes to visit our meetings to help us prepare for our day of action!

Environmental educators Liza and Jeannies came to visit on Monday, January 11th to train us on how to educate community members about marine debris and watersheds using the watershed model in addition to providing training for planting and mulching work we were going to complete.

Last week, EarthTeam interns from Pinole Valley High School hosted a litter removal along the stretch of creek adjacent to their high school. It had been raining heavily throughout the prior days, but we were treated to a break in the storm, perfectly timed for the end of the school day, and the beginning of the cleanup.

This month EarthTeam students visited the Dow Wetlands to learn about the volunteer efforts at the site to preserve some of California’s last remaining wetlands. In addition to their usual litter pick up, EarthTeam students were lead on a nature walk to learn how to identify some of the more common plants and animals in the region.
