Zero Litter Hallway Projects are 3 week research project that gives interns and introduction to conducting independent investigations and exploring solutions to address an issue they decide to address. This year Oakland High investigated 5 different hallways on their campus, implemented solutions to try and reduce litter in their hallways, and discussed how they incorporate this work into a larger project as the year progresses.  Read below about Wendy’s small group hallway project:

EarthTeam Interns at Richmond High School have been working hard inside the classroom learning the ins and outs of urban forestry and on Saturday  they finally got their feet wet. On Saturday, October 24th, eleven interns came out to support Make A Difference Day at John F Kennedy Park in Richmond, CA. Our interns focused on tree plantings along the street side. Last year our main focus was targeting litter on our campus, we collected data and found that Apple & Eve juice boxes was the number   one source of litter on our campus. Then We made a petition asking Apple & Eve to change their packaging.

Earth Team came to visit American High School back in September, and their representative was Devin Cormia. At first, I didn’t really think much of it. Many of us just joined for service hours, and didn’t really care what we did. However, over the course of the 9-10 months of our internship, we grew more active and involved in our efforts to resolve litter on our campus.
