This February our Antioch EarthTeam Interns travelled to the Big Break Regional Office to share their knowledge with our partner Louis Terrazas. Interns put together a presentation summarizing their marine debris data that they have collected all school year long at the Antioch Sand Dunes Wildlife Refugee. Our student leaders connected their data and how the litter on the site effects the local Lange’s Metalmark Butterfly, a near extinct  species. Richmond High Interns have been busy this year with their marine debris reduction efforts at school and in their community. Their focus on educating their peers and community has resulted in interns hosting litter cleanups and spreading awareness through education booths at community events. In the second half of the internship, interns are taking their education work a step further by creating an outdoor classroom for their entire campus community to utilize and enjoy.

On Wednesday, February 2nd, Oakland High interns gathered together to host their own Campus Cleanup. Weeks prior to the event they prepared; dividing into working groups to organize their event. At the end of the day, they collected over 8pounds of litter on campus in their litter hotspot areas! Here are some of the highlights from that day straight from the interns’ perspectives:
