Constitution and Bylaws of the Cass Technical High School Earth Tomorrow Club


ARTICLE I

Section 1: Name

This organization shall be known as the Cass Technical High School Earth Tomorrow Club of Detroit, Michigan.

Section 2: Purpose

The purpose of this organization is to make our environment a safer and more beautiful place for future generations by recycling in our school and restoring the community in which we live. We will involve as many students, faculty, staff, and administration as possible since we all have a responsibility in conserving and preserving our natural resources.

Section 3: Aims
          (a) To involve fellow students in our groups
          (b) To recycle our waste so it can be transformed into useable items
          (c) To let others appreciate the beauty of the outdoors
          (d) To enhance the beauty of our school's surroundings


ARTICLE II: Officers

(a) The officers of this organization shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and a Treasurer. Elected officers should:

          1. Be truly interested in bettering our club/community.
          2. Maintain an overall G.P.A. of 2.5 or better
          3. Attend all meetings
          4. Be able to carry out their assigned responsibilities

(b) Each position will be subject to the approval of at least two of the sponsoring teachers. Voting shall be supervised by two of the sponsoring teachers. Any member may nominate any other member for any office providing acceptance.

(c) The President shall preside at all meetings and have the general direction of all offices and two sponsoring teachers of the club.

(d) The Vice President shall perform all of the duties of the President in his/her absence. The Vice President shall attend all meetings.

(e) The Secretary shall handle all of the correspondence of this organization. He/she shall take notes on the business of the organization.

(f) The Assistant Secretary shall take minutes of all meetings. He/she shall perform the duties of the Secretary in his/her absence.

(g) The Treasurer shall be responsible for tracking the financial status of the club. All monies shall be deposited and withdrawn from the proper account. All bills and expenses of this organization shall be paid by money order and is to be approved by the Treasurer, President, and two of the sponsoring teachers. An account update shall be given at all meetings.

(h) If an office is vacant, a successor shall be appointed at the next regular membership meeting by the President, with the approval of two sponsoring teachers.

(i) Any officer may call a special membership meeting—business of these meetings must be stated on the meeting notice.


ARTICLE III: Membership

Any person, when duly sponsored by a member of this club, shall be eligible to become a member of this organization. To maintain eligibility in this club, all members must maintain a passing grade in all subjects and must maintain at least a 2.5 G.P.A. All members are expected to attend all meetings and are expected to participate in discussions and activities. All members will be provided with a copy of the Bylaws.


ARTICLE IV: Meetings

(a) All membership meetings (except for special meetings) shall be held on the second Wednesday of every month during 8th hour at the designated location.

(b) A motion may be put on the floor by any member, pertaining to anything helpful to the organization. In order to pass, a motion must be supported by another member and have a majority of the members present.


ARTICLE V: General

(a) No members, besides top officers and sponsoring teachers, shall state public views as being those of the club without prior permission.

(b) Any amendment or addition to the constitution and bylaws of this organization must first be referred to two sponsoring teachers. If it is recommended by those teachers, it may be brought to a vote at a membership meeting where members have already been notified of the proposed change.


ARTICLE VI: Dissolution

In the event of a dissolution of the club, any assets remaining shall be turned over to the Cass Technical Science Department after satisfaction of all liabilities against the club.
