EarthDay
(Clean Cars/Goals)
Goal: Hold sport utility vehicles, pick-up trucks and mini-vans to the
same air pollution standards as cars. Improve the fuel efficiency of
new cars and light trucks to a combined average of 45 MPG by 2010 and
at least 65 MPG by 2020. Offer incentives that build strong markets
for renewable fuels and for clean vehicles powered by hybrid motors
and fuel cells.
Energy
Quest
The California Energy Commission is proud to announce the Internet's
FIRST Web Site devoted to Energy Education. This site opened October
1st to coincide with National Energy Awareness Month.
Energy Quest offers energy-related education materials for students
from kindergarten through high school. It offers games, puzzles, science
projects on energy and other challenging information to classroom and
home computer users with Web access.
Topics covered include renewable energy, electric vehicles, energy
conservation, energy safety; resource guides for parents and teachers;
and dozens of links to other Internet sites on science, math and other
material aimed at children.
Energy Quest was created by the California Energy Commission to keep
up with the rapidly increasing numbers of California schools seaching
the Web for substantive classroom information.
The Web Site will continue to grow as more and more energy education
material is made available by the Energy Commission and other groups
and organizations.
