Interns conduct their first Classroom Waste Audit!
“That’s nasty! What is that?!” -Kendall
Well, that pretty much sums it up! Last week Earth Team interns came together to conduct their first of many audits. This Audit was a very important one, and the information gathered has been analyzed to create an initial baseline data record of Oakland Tech’s classroom trash before the implementation of the 3-Bin System. A random pick of 5 classroom bins were audited, and data was recorded via 4 platforms; weight, volume, frequency, and observation. Interns were blown away on how much of the daily trash has the potential to be recycled or composted. The data collected makes it very apparent the need for this project.. and Earth Team is ready to make it happen!
Check out the data below!
WEIGHT COLLECTED (lbs)
Interns hypothesized what they thought the percentage would be, and majority were surprised after they analyzed their findings. A total of 74% of the trash could have been recycled or composted! We are ready to create some much needed change.
