Action Projects: Kickoff Projects

School Environmental Surveys

Surveys

Introduction

Working along side students at your school, with help from the Earth Team Network of resources and even other Earth Team schools and students, you and your group can make this school year one to be proud of, not just this year, but into the new millennium.

In order to improve your environment, you must first know the conditions that currently exist. The Earth Team Kickoff Projects consists of (6) Environmental surveys and (1) Energy Audit that will help you assess some of the environmental conditions that exist at your school site. These include Garden / Landscape / Compost,  Indoor Air Quality, Transportation, Hazardous Substances, Recycling / Waste Reduction, and Energy.
Results of the surveys should then be posted on your school’s Earth Team web page. You can view surveys from other schools and even chat with students from those sites.

The results of the surveys will provide you with information to help decide which one or more of the survey topics your group wishes to help improve during the school year. Regular updates should be provided to your school’s Earth Team web page. In May or April, 2001, your group can re-survey the selected topic and determine if you helped make a difference in the environmental quality at your school.

Instead of just wishing conditions were better; instead of just hoping that someone else will do something about them; instead of just talking about how to make a difference; here is an opportunity to truly improve the environmental quality of your school.
