Kilowatt Hour-Saving Points! The MKHC is FREE to all participants.
Deadline for all MKHC Action Projects is March 15, 2003. Prize winners
will be announced on April 22, Earth Day 2003.
How It Works
Check the MKHC Save-A-Kilowatt Meter to see how much progress weve
made! Over time, the needle on the meter will move to reflect the completion
of energy-related Action Projects. Work individually, as a class, as
a club or as a school. Help us move the meter to our goalONE MILLION
Kilowatt Hour-Saving Points!!
Scoring Kilowatt Hour-Saving Points
Every MKHC-approved energy-related Action Project will be awarded a
pre-determined amount of Kilowatt Hour-Saving Points. Some project point
values—such as ideas submitted by students—will need to
be determined. Deadline for all MKHC Action Projects is March 15, 2003.
After that date, points will be totaled and compared; winners will be
announced on April 22, Earth Day 2003.
Point Awards
MKHC Speakers Bureau Visit
1,000 points to each student who attends a presentation by a member
of the MKHC Energy Experts Speakers Bureau.
Earth Team / Power Light MKHC Essay Contest
10,000 points awarded for each completed essay.
MKHC Poster Blitz / Best Poster Contests
1,000 points awarded for each poster design submitted to the Best
Poster Contests; 2,000 points awarded for each business location in
which your poster is displayed as part of the MKHC Poster Blitz; 3,000
points awarded for a poster that is both displayed in a business and
submitted to the MKHC Poster Contests.
School Energy Audit
5,000 points awarded to each student participating in a completed
School Energy Audit.
Home Energy Audit
6,000 points awarded for each completed Home Energy Audit.
Green Business Program
1,000 points awarded to each participant in a Green Business orientation;
2,000 points awarded to each participant in a Green Business "sales
call"; 7,000 points awarded to each student participating in obtaining
a signed application for Green Business Certification.

Kids' Flex Your Power Energy Challenge
2,000 points awarded to each participating student.

Essay Contest
6 $500 First Prizes for High School Seniors from 6 Bay Area Counties.Submit
500-1000 words on "What solar and renewable energy policies can
Americans implement to combat global warming?" Eligible counties
are Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano, and Sonoma.

Write an essay on solar and renewable energy; open only to graduating
High School Seniors from Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo,
Solano, and Sonoma Counties. A $500 prize will be awarded for the Best

Poster Contest
1 $500 First Prize and 8 $50 Runners-up Prizes
MKHC BEST POSTER CONTEST
Design a poster highlighting energy saved
by switching from standard to CFL light bulbs. The goal of your poster:
to inspire shoppers to buy CFL instead of standard bulbs. A $500 Grand
Prize and $50 prizes for runners-up from each County will be awarded
for the Best Poster.
MKHC POSTER BLITZ
Design a poster highlighting energy saved by switching from standard
to CFL light bulbs, reproduce it and then "blitz" your community
with these posters and persuade local businesses to display them.
