Our
efforts have mainly focused on Alameda and Contra Costa counties, with
some work in Santa Clara and San Francisco Counties. We have established
five restoration sites thus far, including Martin Luther King Shoreline
in Oakland, Dow Wetlands in Pittsburg, Heron’s Head Park in San
Francisco, Fort Funston in San Francisco, and Palo Alto Baylands in
Palo Alto. In establishing these sites, we have partnered with Save
The Bay, East Bay Regional Parks, The Dow Chemical Company, UC Berkeley,
Literacy for Environmental Justice, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy,
and The City of Palo Alto. We have also started developing a partnership
with The National Park Service, in order to do more work with schools
in San Francisco and San Mateo.
Outreach efforts have included brochures, seasonal and special event
flyers, website development (www.earthteam.net),
conference tabling, press releases, monthly email bulletins, and phone
canvassing. To encourage participation and better support student and
teacher involvement in the initiative, we have made arrangements for
bus transportation to and from the restoration events for a small fee.
