Restoration Program The EarthTeam Restoration Initiative (ETRI) creates Restoration Program for SF Bay Area teens throughout the year at different sites around the Bay area. Ongoing ETRI restoration events offer students a chance to do hands-on environmental work locally, support teachers who want to promote environmental learning and stewardship, and help local habitat restoration efforts of government, nonprofit, and private organizations
ABOUT ETRI PROJECTS EarthTeam Restoration Initiative projects are open to any middle and high school classes, clubs, or individual students. They take place on Saturdays, typically from 10am to 1:30pm, include free water and snacks, and some include school bus transportation for a small fee to help groups get to the restoration site. We encourage participants to RSVP in advance and ask groups of 10 or more and those that request our bus service to bring an adult chaperone. RESTORATION ACTIVITIES Restoration activities consist of removing non-native plants, creek and shoreline cleanup, planting native plants, and environmental monitoring. Activities vary throughout the school year, as they depend on season and on the ecosystem at the particular site. Since restoration work involves some risks by being outdoors, using tools, and working near creeks, wetlands, and other natural spaces, we require students to bring permission slips, signed by their parent or guardian. SPECIAL EVENTS EarthTeam will host 3 special Restoration Program this year which will include bus transportation and free lunch. The Kickoff in September is a great way to start out a new school year by getting out there to help the environment. Our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Restoration and Celebration includes participating in an East Oakland rally for Martin Luther King in the morning, followed by a free lunch, readings about King, nature walks, and of course, restoration work. And our End of the Year restoration project in the spring gives students one more chance to make a difference while celebrating the end of the school year before heading off for summer break.
