Film Professionals Speak Between Films
Our School/Our Planet – a Sustainable Schools Video Project for Teens was launched last fall and classes and clubs from 15 East Bay schools took on the challenge. The goal of the project is to create videos that will inspire students to think globally and act locally by opening their eyes to all of the ways that their school environment is affected by their individual actions. There were few limitations, just get creative, learn and have fun. The video screenings and reception will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at the Orinda Library Auditorium from 5-7 with film professionals speaking briefly about their areas of expertise.
The film professionals who will be speaking as well as mixing with the crowd include Tom Martinek, computer graphics supervisor and Kim Thompson-Steel, former animator, with Industrial Light & Magic, David Goss, Director of the Orinda Film Festival, Randy Holleschau, a Hollywood Producer, Annaliza Savage, an award winning documentary producer, Gail Buchbinder, an independent producer and Julia Robertson with PinchMeFilms.
The participating schools are Acalanes HS in Lafayette, Campolindo HS in Moraga, Del Amigo Continuation HS in Danville, Foothill Middle in Walnut Creek, Hayward HS, Irvington HS in Fremont, Martin Luther King Middle School in Berkeley, McClymonds HS in Oakland, Miramonte HS in Orinda, Monte Vista HS in Danville, Northgate HS in Walnut Creek, Oakland HS, Oasis Charter HS in Oakland, Orinda Intermediate, Walnut Creek Intermediate and Washington HS in Fremont.
On April 18 the student created videos will be shown continuously at the Goldman Environmental Awards reception at the San Francisco Opera House and soon thereafter on 5 television stations. What an honor for our local students!
The event is free. However, space is limited. If you would like to attend, please contact Lana Husser, the Director of the project, at LanaH@earthteam.net or 510-232-6885. Our School/Our Planet is a project of EarthTeam, a nonprofit organization serving teachers and teens, and has been made possible by the generous sponsorships of the Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority and the Altamont Education Advisory Board.
Laura Abrams, President of the Board of the Contra Costa County Solid Waste Authority and other local dignitaries will be in attendance.
