How to be an Environmentally Concious Consumer

Tracy Rysavy and Julie Stetter, Staff Members of Co-Op America
December 5, 2000

How can we reduce our consumtion of material goods to lighten the load on the resources of our planet? Is it possible to buy less and enjoy life more? During the holiday shopping season, it's especially appropriate to talk about how to find products that are environmentally friendly and are made by fairly paid labor.

Tracy Rysavy and Julie Stetter are committed to Co-op America's mission of creating an environmentally responsible economy by encouraging consumers, investors, workers and businesses to adopt environmentally responsible practices. The Co-op America website is chock full of information such as the 400 companies that have signed the WoodWise pledge. Their Green Pages help you find thousands of socially and environmentallly responsible products and services, plus tips on "green shopping" and how to support companies which do well by doing good.
