REDUCE YOUR SCHOOL'S CARBON EMISSIONS

In addition to offsetting your school's emissions by buying carbon credits, you should also work to directly reduce them.  And believe it or not, you can have fun in the process (and maybe even win $100!), through EarthTeam's Cool Schools Carbon Reduction Pledge Program.

PARTICIPATE IN THE COOL SCHOOLS PLEDGE PROGRAM

Through the Cool Schools Carbon Reduction Pledge Program, students at your school PLEDGE to reduce their carbon footprint and choose from our list of easy carbon-saving actions. Through holding a raffle, you can encourage students to REDUCE their carbon footprint almost immediately!

THE PLEDGE
Students at your school pledge to reduce their carbon footprint by taking simple actions, which they choose off of our pledge sheet. Each action reduces carbon emissions by anywhere from 6 lbs to 1 ton (2,000 lbs), and the more students pledge, the smaller their carbon footprint becomes.

FOLLOW THROUGH (THE RAFFLE)
It’s only human to say you’re going to do something… and then somehow become busy and forget to do it. The cool thing about this pledge program is that not only can students pledge to take action; you also offer an incentive for them to actually do it.

With their pledge, students receive a sheet of Carbon Coupons for the following actions:

·  Install compact fluorescent light bulbs & save 300 lbs carbon per two lightbulbs per year

·  Save hot water by installing low flow shower heads & save 350 lbs carbon per year

·  Clean refrigerator coils to increase cooling efficiency & save 325 lbs carbon per cleaning

·   Buy carbon credits to offset your carbon footprint & save 2,000 lbs carbon per credit

For every one of the above actions a student completes during the pledge drive period, they can fill out a Carbon Coupon and turn it in to be entered into a raffle. Students get one coupon per action, so the more they do, the more coupons they can enter to the raffle, and the better chances they have of winning!

WIN $100!
One student in each of the first seven schools that run the Cool Schools Pledge will win a grand prize of $100 for pledges that can be verified (see pledge packet for raffle rules). Even if you are not one of the first seven schools, you can still run the pledge and raffle off other prizes.
