Adventure and Leadership: The Outdoor Leaders Program’s Overnight Trip to Henry Coe State Park

From Saturday, May 18 to Sunday, May 19, members of the Outdoor Leaders Program attended a workshop and camping trip at Henry W. Coe State Park. The leaders enjoyed great weather and ideal trail conditions for a trip involving a 3.5 mile hike-in, as well as lessons on leadership, leave no trace principles, setting up a tent, sleeping warm, and cooking and cleaning in a backcountry environment. Leaders honed the outdoor skills that they will use on their upcoming backpacking trip in the Emigrant Wilderness.

Leaders were all smiles on their hike into the campground.

Dinner assembly was a team effort, including a visit from a curious Mule Deer.

The leaders celebrated reaching finishing their hike with a selfie.

This was an amazing trip and a successful continuation of all of the Leaders’ hard work this year. We are so excited to continue to follow them on their journey. Special thanks to the California Natural Resources Agency, Joseph and Vera Long Foundation, and the State Coastal Conservancy for making this trip possible!
