After a semester of 100% virtual instruction, Antioch interns are ready for rest and relaxation this winter break.
At our last meeting of the year, interns shared some of their highlights from the semester. The team is overall grateful for the opportunity to have something to do to stay busy and social through months of distance learning. Amidst the ups and downs this year has brought, our students have proven to us once again how incredibly resilient, passionate, and dedicated they are to protecting the environment.

Hear what Antioch interns had to say:
This semester I enjoyed learning about Native Americans and their strong impact/influence on our environment. Recognizing the work of indigenous people allows us to learn from them and think of ways to give back to their community and be appreciative of their culture. Additionally, I enjoyed learning about environmental justice. So many injustices are occurring around the world right now, therefore it is immensely important to spread awareness and do out best to support organizations and politicians to participate in the creation of fair environmental policies. Through the Saturday events, I also liked learning about the backgrounds of the people who work for Earth Team. It helped me visualize different ways I can pursue careers in science.
–Luna, Antioch Earth Team
I liked that I get to build a little community with a group of kids who have the same interests as me.
–Julia, Antioch Earth Team
Our meetings this semester happened weekly over Zoom. Interns learned about a myriad of environmental topics including wildfires, ocean pollution, indigenous ecology, nature journaling, carbon footprints, and environmental racism.
Each month Earth Team staff hosted a virtual weekend event where interns across the entire Earth Team program were able to meet, hear from guest speakers, and participate in workshops. Earth Team interns learned about preparing for careers in Environmental Science, applying to college and financial aid, and developing STEM research projects.
We’re excited for what’s to come from the Antioch team in the new year!
