As the school year comes to a close, we’re celebrating the accomplishments of our Arroyo High School Earth Team interns and reflecting on an incredible year of environmental action, research, and leadership.
Throughout the year, interns took on a variety of hands-on projects that allowed them to explore environmental issues while making a positive impact in their community. A major focus of this year’s program was Tire and Road Wear Particle (TRWP) research. Interns collected samples near major roadways, analyzed their findings, and shared their research with community members, environmental professionals, and local decision-makers. Through this project, students strengthened their scientific research, data collection, public speaking, and communication skills while investigating an emerging source of pollution affecting urban communities. Interns also participated in the AWAY Project, where they created an educational video focused on the proper disposal of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). Through research, scripting, filming, and editing, students developed creative ways to educate their peers and community members about the environmental impacts of improperly disposed batteries and other hazardous materials.
Whether they were collecting scientific data, restoring habitat, presenting their findings, creating outreach materials, or collaborating with community partners, the Arroyo team consistently demonstrated curiosity, leadership, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
We are incredibly proud of everything these students have accomplished this year. Their hard work has not only contributed to healthier communities and ecosystems, but has also helped build the skills and confidence that will serve them well in the future.
