Before the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic closed schools and changed the course of the semester, Castro Valley High’s Earthteam had big plans to reduce waste on campus. Unfortunately, the team had to change their plans once schools closed, and they are now officially launching their waste reduction campaign on social media as the “Plastic Pummelers.”
The team is focusing on two main areas for waste reduction: plastic waste in delivery containers and at home waste audits. Both of the strategies require different things from people, but both can have a huge impact on how much waste we are producing.
Under the current stay-at-home order, it is tempting to get everything you need delivered right to your door. The team wants to caution people against ordering things online unless they have to because of the risk to workers and the huge amount of plastic waste used in the process. There are many ways around this, and they will all be posted on Earthteam’s Instagram and Facebook.
The team is also encouraging people to complete our at-home waste audit. This short audit is not very messy and is intended to give people an idea of how much waste they produce as a household. Check it out HERE.
The campaign is underway and will continue through the next few weeks. Sign our pledge to reduce your household waste by getting fewer things delivered or completing a waste audit HERE. Make sure to select our team name, the Plastic Pummelers!
