
Earth Team Antioch Kicks Off a New Year

Spring was a busy season for Earth Team Antioch! The team partnered with folks from the Contra Costa Resource Conservation District and the Contra Costa Flood Control District to host a community event for Earth Day at the Upper Sand Creek Basin.
Earth Team Antioch has made several visits this year to National Wildlife Refuges in the Bay Area. Interns have been working closely with wildlife biologists at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to learn the importance of restoring and protecting habitats for the many endangered species that reside in these refuges.
The start of a new semester brought new friends to Antioch High’s Earth Team largely due to the success of peer presentations and recruitment in December.
For several weeks Earth Team interns at Antioch High School planned to present to their peers about the work they’ve completed with Earth Team. Throughout the semester interns participated in several public speaking activities and exercises to prepare them for events such as this one.
This Fall, Earth Team interns at Antioch High School have been monitoring water quality at the Upper Sand Creek Basin. Water that enters the basin comes from two locations: Sand Creek and local storm drain systems.
