Cleanup Chronicles: Skyline Students Restore Don Castro Regional Park

On January 13, a group of students from the Skyline High School sustainable youth internship joined intern teams from Arroyo and Castro Valley High Schools as well as partners from the Alameda County Flood Control District and East Bay Regional Parks District for a cleanup at Don Castro Regional Park in Hayward, CA. Students worked at two sites along Alameda Creek, removing trash from the park and logging everything in the Marine Debris Tracker.

L to R: Fern and Danae show off the garden hose they removed from the creek, Samuel, Michael, and Andrea use grabbers to pull down hard to reach plastic in trees, Vivian and Lily collect garbage from the river’s edge.

Students donned rubber waders to pick up trash from the other side of the creek, while Earth Team coordinator Healey had to resort to alternative methods of getting across.

Thank you to our partners at the Alameda County Fish and Wildlife and the Alameda County Flood Control District for making this event possible!
