To kick off the new year, Earth Team interns from Richmond, Berkeley, and Pinole High Schools met up for a Saturday of restoration and litter removal from Wild Cat Creek in San Pablo. Interns led a litter audit and invasive species identification across the walking path and creek bed that sits behind San Pablo City Hall. After completing surveys, interns worked in teams, removing litter and invasive fennel.
Interns surveyed the area to identify pollution hotspots. This critical step helped us understand the extent of litter issues and provided data to inform future cleanup strategies.
Using the data collected in the first part of the workday, interns focused their efforts on the area with the highest litter concentration, successfully removing over 600 gallons of litter from Wild Cat Creek.
As some interns worked on litter removal, others tackled invasive fennel removal, applying sustainable techniques to restore the area’s ecological balance.
