Earth Team enjoys Kayaking at Pinole Shoreline Festival

Earth Team brings their interns to at least one weekend event per month.

This October, Richmond High School is getting in on a treat at the Pinole Shoreline Festival with live music, face paint, pony rides, food and kayaking all for FREE!

The journey is as scenic as the destination at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline, a 2,315-acre parkland right next to densely populated Pinole, Richmond, and San Pablo. At the festival, interns learned about watershed models, native fossils and plants and received a generous book giveaway. The experience was wrapped up with a closely-tied kayaking race between two of the kayaking teams.

Leading up to the event, Richmond High interns has been collecting air quality and marine debris data through PocketLab and NOAA’s marine debris app as a form of citizen science. We’ve also participated at Shimada’s Coastal Cleanup (the largest coastal cleanup event in the world!) with thousands of cleanups happening all around the world.
