As we kick off the new school year, we’re excited to introduce the incredible interns who make up our Skyline team. Each student—whether returning or joining us for the first time—brings their own story and unique connection to the Earth. We’re proud to welcome the 2025–2026 Skyline Earth Team cohort!
My name is Soledad, and I’m an 11th-grade junior. I enjoy cross-country, track, cooking, eating, art, and swimming. I joined Earth Team to help solve local environmental problems in my community and to be the change I want to see. I also hope this experience will help me discover possible future career paths. My goal for this year is to fulfill Earth Team’s expectations and make new friends.
Hello, my name is Laylaa. I’m 16 years old and I’m turning 17 in October. I’m on the softball team, and I played my junior year too. I often journal about my life, and read. I’m currently rereading “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” by Ned Vizzini. It’s one of my favorite books. Random facts about me, I used to live in Michigan, Detroit, and moved to California in 2024. I used to play volleyball at my old school, I switch here so I could to live with my father. I joined Earth Team because I wanted to do something good for the world. I enjoy being outside, and it is my dream to walk through the neighborhood without seeing pollution. I’m a hard worker, I like using my hands to find a solution for a problem. Earth Team is a good fit for me, this is my first internship and I love team work. My goals are picking up at least two or more buckets of trash each Saturday. Become an expert on climate change and be able to educate others. Lend a helping hand to anyone at any point. And take this experience and get the best out of it. I’m super happy to be a part of Earth Team and I look forward for events and discussions in the future.
My name is Michael. I am in 11 grade. I’m in the swim team, I enjoy reading, drawing, writing, and watching sailing and water polo. I joined earth team because I want to help make a difference in the east bay’s natural environments, while at the same time building community with people on the team. My goal for the year is to pass my AP Bio test.
My name is Oliver and I’m a senior. Outside of Earth Team, I’m the concertmaster of Skyline’s orchestra and I also play in the Muse VIVO Orchestra in connection with the Oakland Symphony. I’m very interested in psychology, I’ve taken two psychology courses through dual enrollment and I’m currently an intern at the Youth Mental Health Academy. Additionally, I love gardening and I spend lots of time with my plants and at nurseries! I joined Earth Team this year because I’ve loved my time here since 2023 and I can’t wait to create more environmental change! This year, I’m hoping to become a Youth Board Member at Friends of Sausal Creek.
My name is Isak, and I am a Junior at Skyline High School. I love Math, linguistics, music, public transportation, plants, and fungi! Outside of Earth Team I am participating in Natural Sciences Club, Red Cross, and Badminton. I joined Earth Team to gain unforgettable experiences with my peers and have fun learning and interacting with the environment. One goal for this year is to do a good job on all my AP tests.
My name is Allison, I’m a junior at Skyline High School. I’m currently not in any sports, but I am planning to do badminton for fun, and I’m in multiple clubs including Red Cross and Natural Sciences. Some of my hobbies are reading, scrapbooking, and browsing bookstores. Some facts about me are that I’m a middle child and my favorite color is green. My goal for this year is to do more restoration work and spend more time outside!
Hi, my name is Gabriela, but I go by Gaby, and I’m sophomore at Skyline High school. I joined a few clubs this year like Red Cross, teens on target, and a women’s association club. My hobbies is binge-watching shows, hiking and going out with my family on walks, I also love spending time with my friends and my cat at home. One goal for me this year would be to push myself past my limits and do everything that in the future I would regret not doing.
My name is Ky’Airah, and I’m in 11th grade. I’m not currently involved in sports or school clubs, but I do attend a weekend internship focused on environmental justice, which has been a passion of mine since 2018. I joined Earth Team because I wanted to make a change and take action wherever I could. One of my goals this year is to complete all 120+ hours of the internship.
My name is Lily, and I’m a freshman. I play volleyball and enjoy playing instruments such as the violin, ukulele, and guitar. I joined Earth Team for the hours, experience, and stipend. My goal for this year is to excel in all my classes.
My name is Giselle, and I’m a junior. I enjoy boxing and doing makeup. I joined Earth Team to help the environment. One of my goals this year is to pass my driver’s permit test and get my driver’s license.
My name is Leslie, I’m a sophomore at Skyline High School. I play badminton, my favorite animal are otters, and I want to be a psychologist when I grow up. I joined Earth Team to create a better connection in learning about the environment and understanding it better if I change my mind on what I want to study in the future. A goal for this year is to have all A’s in my classes, especially for my AP classes.
Hi! I’m Fern (she/her), a senior at Skyline High school. I joined Earth Team 4 years ago because I wanted to spend time helping nature while also working with other people who feel the same way. My goal in Earth Team this year is to take on more of a leadership role, including creating a well managed social media presence. I am a captain for skyline’s girls tennis team and enjoy scrap booking, dance, music and caring for houseplants in my free time.
My name is Kalissa and I am a junior at Skyline High School. I have played volleyball for 3 years and am on my school’s varsity volleyball team. I am the vice president of the Women Student Union at my school but am currently going into my second year in the club. I enjoy baking, hanging out with my friends, thrifting, and trying new things. I joined Earth team to participate in an internship that allows me to make a change in my community. One goal that I have for this year is to attend as many events for Earth Team as possible.
My name is Lucia. I am a Junior and I play volleyball for the school team. I enjoy baking, being outside, hanging out with friends and shopping. I joined earth team because I think it will help me build my communication, leadership and collaboration skills. I also want to stay consistent because I was a part of earth team last year. One goal that I have for this year is to complete all of my hours and to meet new people.
