San Lorenzo and Friends Pick Up Litter at Hayward Shoreline

San Lorenzo Earth Team was joined by members of several other Earth Team programs for a litter cleanup at Hayward Shoreline earlier this month.

It was a beautiful morning at Hayward Regional Shoreline when members of San Lorenzo High’s Earth Team met to pick up trash. They were joined by other interns from Arroyo, Skyline, and Castro Valley and all together cleared out an impressive 9 large trash bags worth of material!

The teams followed strict COVID-19 protocols and were separated into two groups, an early and a late group, in order to keep the group size small. This was the first time the team has met in person this year and it was the first time some of the team members met each other despite having been together in virtual meetings all year!

The “early” shift.

The areas around the parking lot at Hayward Shoreline’s Grant Ave. entrance were full of litter, so the team had their work cut out for them. Between the two teams, they were able to completely fill 9 10-gallon bags with debris that they picked up. Though this is an impressive achievement, it also speaks to the prevalence of litter in many areas in our communities.

Many teammebers could not make it to the event, and they were encouraged to pick up litter in their neighborhoods. Combined with that work, the team has truly made a huge impact with their cleanup efforts this month. Great job, team!
