In response to the current COVID-19 outbreak, SLZUSD made the decision to close schools, and Earth Team followed suit, cancelling in-person meetings. That doesn’t mean that the team isn’t going to continue to fight to protect our planet, though!
Spring plans to protect wildlife at Alameda Wildlife Refuge had to be canceled, as well as water quality testing in the San Lorenzo Creek. The team is disappointed, but San Lorenzo High’s Earth Team has transitioned its meetings online, where discussion and activism continue.
After getting acquainted with the software (we used Zoom), the team’s first online meeting covered how to communicate science through storytelling. This week, the team is performing waste audits of their homes in an attempt to identify waste sources in their homes. Future plans are still in the works, but rest assured the team will be learning about the global ecosystem from the safety of their homes.
Earth Team will continue to host online meetings until schools reopen. Stay tuned here for more updates from the San Lorenzo Team!
