On June 26-27, Earth Team students embarked on an exciting overnight camping trip to Haypress Campground in Golden Gate National Recreation Area, partnering with Big City Mountaineers. The adventure began at North Berkeley BART station, where the group gathered for a brief orientation before heading to the campground parking lot. There, they staged their gear and packed for the journey ahead.
To begin their adventure, the students hiked a mile to reach their campsite. Upon arrival, they sprang into action, working together to set up tents and establish their home for the night. The day’s exploration continued with a hike to the beach, where sharp-eyed students spotted diverse wildlife, including a great blue heron, coyotes, a golden eagle soaring overhead, and even a family of pocket gophers. The group savored their time on the beach before returning to camp to prepare a well-earned dinner.
The following day brought new adventures as they tackled a ridge trail, their efforts rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Marin and San Francisco. As the trip came to a close, the students headed home, enriched with new outdoor skills and cherished memories of their time in nature.
